Pimple patches: what they are and how they work

They’re not meant to treat acne, but when a pimple or another appears out of nowhere to spoil your natural beauty, they can be your best companions.

Pimple patches are the new sensation arrival of Korean beauty experts. They’re not meant to treat acne, but when a pimple or another appears out of nowhere to spoil your natural beauty, they can be your best companions. We tell you more.

What are pimple patches

Although formulas may vary in active ingredients, pimple patches are actually custom hydrocolloid patches.

These patches are applied to wounds, creating a protective barrier over the wound while disinfecting it. When they come into contact with wound fluids, the patch swells and takes on a gelatinous texture that encloses these secretions and consequently bacteria and impurities. At the same time, they maintain a moist environment that enhances wound healing, cell regeneration and pain relief.

Among the most common examples of hydrocolloid patches, we have plasters for cold sores, for calluses or for ankle injuries caused by rubbing from shoes.

How do they work

Since pimple patches are hydrocolloids, they follow the same principle as pimple patches.

The patch is applied to the pimple and promotes the secretion and subsequent absorption of its fluids. In the process, it reduces inflammation and decreases or completely eliminates the infection, so it not only removes the pimple but also prevents the redness or spots that it may cause.

Initially the patch is quite thin and transparent, but as it works it changes its color to white and becomes swollen from the absorbed fluids. For more efficient results, it is recommended to leave the patch on for several hours, preferably overnight while you sleep and the body begins its regeneration and recovery process.

These Korean patches have already become a cult product worldwide.

It brings patches of three different sizes (7mm, 10mm and 12mm) to adapt to the different types of grains and guarantee their total isolation. They are also slightly thicker than normal to ensure complete absorption of fluids and to ensure that fluids are trapped as they gel, so they don’t touch the skin.

They should be applied to clean skin, but makeup can be worn over them.
